Coach's Corner
This area is for the team Coach and/or Manager to post regular updates on their team. These might be regular game reports, photos, anecdotes etc.
This has felt like a very long season. We have gone through many ups and downs; we have had players pull out of the team for a variety of reasons and some reasons not mentioned. We have had a strange draw where you have played the same opposition over a few weeks and not seen them again all season. We have had three games in a weekend and none for the next four weeks. We have had the trouble with the rink and the ice time, which called for a change of committee half way through – never an easy thing to work through as focus is lost, and all sorts of development plans just could not happen. Amongst all this turmoil the core of the team prevailed.
We went to Penrith for this game with hope in our hearts but not enough belief in ourselves that we could win this game. The first period was our nemesis - we conceded 3 unanswered goals. Alex stopped every initial shot – we just didn’t clear out the rebound and their player was well positioned to get it in and they did this unopposed. We were nervous, too much focused on getting to the puck that we left players in the D – this is something we have been working very hard on in training – to clear the opposition out but in the excitement sometimes training goes out the window.
CC Cyclones Women Vs Canterbury Eagles – Semi Final 08
We played a much-depleted Canterbury bench, which is a sad way to play a semi. A full strength Canterbury bench would have made for a much more exciting game. Never the less they put up quite a fight and made real efforts to tie down Kath and Mel which left the bulk of our very capable players open to set up plays and make some good shots.
This proved to be a very different game tonight from last night, almost two different teams. We had more of our team members come to play which made three forward lines and 2 defensive lines. We had players who could not train and so were a little out of step with those who had been to training. That made forming lines more difficult. Players who have not played much with each other do not read each others moves well. This inevitably leads to more tension on the bench and some frustration as well. The Bears had also regrouped and came back with more determination for this last game of the season.
