CC Cyclones Women Vs Canterbury Eagles – Semi Final 08
We played a much-depleted Canterbury bench, which is a sad way to play a semi. A full strength Canterbury bench would have made for a much more exciting game. Never the less they put up quite a fight and made real efforts to tie down Kath and Mel which left the bulk of our very capable players open to set up plays and make some good shots.
Elisa opened our scoring ably assisted by Michelle who ran an excellent defence – always looking to get the pass away to an open forward. Our second goal came after much too-ing and fro-ing with a lovely set up by Mel to give Annelie her goal.
In the second Sharnita collected the puck and walked it through to claim her goal. Kath after much determined effort managed to shrug off her opposition to finally get one in the back of the net. This goal was shortly followed by one from Mel who planted one from a pass from Amanda.
The third period a very tired Canterbury redoubled their efforts to stop us but we still managed to get in 2 more. Amanda had an exceptional game and scored first in this period, ably assisted by Hannah and Kath Nita. Mel managed to finish the game with the last goal assisted by Sharnita, who had held up in defence showing a maturity in her play which bodes well for the women’s team next season. While Canterbury only managed a few shots on, Alex was ever vigilant in net and held them out for a shut out. Well done Alex – not an easy thing to do when you are always cold, very difficult to keep your edge.
Well-done ladies 7-0 score line to the Cyclones and on to the Grand Final.
